Photo of a pair of Fish Crows in the DC Metro area. Easily identified by their fun call and clearly being a crow. There's no such thing as a small murder for humans, but I think that two is the minimum required for crows.
Two fish crows share a weathered, broken branch beneath a brooding gray sky, one settled and watchful in the foreground while the other arrives in a flurry of spread wings behind, every primary feather fanned and distinct against the churning clouds above. What looks at first like simple black plumage reveals itself on closer inspection to be something far more interesting, the iridescent sheen of each bird shifting between deep violet, blue-green, and gunmetal depending on how the flat overcast light skims across the surface. The gnarled, lichen-covered limb and bare winter branches complete a composition that feels simultaneously raw and deeply considered.
Moody, intelligent, and visually richer than it has any right to be at first glance, this print rewards anyone willing to look past the obvious. It is a natural for dark academic interiors, dramatic gallery walls, and any space that prefers its art with a little edge. A murder of two, framed perfectly, and entirely in charge of the atmosphere.
