The fountains in Paris are incredible, unless you go in the winter. But there's still other architectural wonders to enjoy in the city, such as the Louvre Pyramid here. We went as early as possible to beat the crowds, but apparently that was still a couple hours too late. But we couldn't complain about the view from the outside.
The Cour Napoléon comes alive at the precise moment the rising sun ignites the cloud cover above in a spectacular wash of amber and slate, the warm light catching the glass facets of I.M. Pei's iconic pyramid and turning it into a glowing lantern at the heart of one of the world's great architectural conversations. The equestrian statue of Louis XIV commands the left foreground with baroque authority while the ornate Renaissance wings of the palace stretch in both directions, their honey-toned stonework absorbing the early light with the ease of a building that has been doing exactly this for four centuries. Clusters of early visitors move across the cobblestones below, dwarfed by the scale of everything surrounding them.
Few images manage to hold this much history, this much architectural ambition, and this much pure atmospheric drama in a single frame, and this one earns every square inch. The layered palette of gold, charcoal, and deep orange gives it a richness that translates beautifully to large format prints, making it a natural anchor for any serious gallery wall or statement space.
