A calm evening in Lake Placid, with only a single fishing boat keeping me company. I had heard of the amazing views in the Adirondacks, but was still blown away at the colors the sky can turn as the sun sets behind the mountains.
From high above, Lake Placid unspools between forested peninsulas in a corridor of peach and rose-tinted water, the surface catching the evening sky in long, soft ribbons of reflected color that a single boat has just cut through with a perfect V-shaped wake trailing behind it into the middle distance. Low wisps of mist cling to the treeline on both sides like the lake exhaling after a warm summer day, while the Adirondack peaks silhouette themselves in deep blue-gray against a sky that transitions from molten peach at the horizon through lavender and into a towering cumulus formation lit coral and violet from within. Lakeside cabins and docks nestle into the wooded shoreline below, quietly domestic against the sweeping grandeur surrounding them.
Where a fiery sky demands attention, this image earns something more lasting — a sense of complete and utter peace with where you are and what you are looking at. The palette of warm peach, soft lavender, and deep forest green translates beautifully across any interior, bringing the specific tranquility of an Adirondack summer evening into a space permanently. An aerial landscape that genuinely rewards every inch of large format printing.
