The history of the Tower of London is pretty brutal. The metal poppies scattered throughout the yard help. Then you learn that it was a temporary art structure called “Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red” commemorating the WW1 dead, and you’re right back. We were lucky to catch the exhibit, which was only around for 5 months in 2014.
