We spent the Christmas of 2022 up in the Pocono Mountains during a severe cold snap. While it was too cold to do much outside, this local Red Squirrel tried its best to make us feel welcome.
A Squirrel has claimed the best seat in the yard, positioning itself beside a weathered cast iron bear welcome sign with the composed energy of a creature that has absolutely appointed itself co-host of this establishment. The russet tail curves upward in a dramatic flourish while the white-chested little body sits alert and bright-eyed in a snow mound, the bear statue looming behind it holding the "Welcome" sign with considerably less personality than its uninvited companion. The soft, neutral winter sky behind them keeps every bit of visual attention exactly where it belongs.
